Clinical Information

Glucagon is a polypeptide hormone produced by the alpha cells of the pancreatic islets in response to hypoglycemia or to stimulation by growth hormone. Cytoplasmic staining is seen in pancreatic islet glucagon alpha cells and islet cell tumors. Glucagon is also found in neuroendocrine cells of the small intestine and stomach.
